THE SLEEP NUMBER BED: Infomercial Review

THE SLEEP NUMBER BED: Infomercial Review
I'm probably not the best authority on beds and the ideal sleeping situation. More times than not, I fall asleep on a sofa that's not quite long enough for my body, and I wake up with a crick in my nick because of positioning it on the sofa's arm. But every time I see one of those commercials for The Sleep Number Bed, I'm a bit envious, because that's the kind of restful sleep I'd like to get each night.
So today I was watching the most recent infomercial for the bed, feeling sleepy even as I watched it, and noticed a few things a bit out of kilter with the commercial. For instance:
* Doesn't that first guy in the bed look somehow wrong? I mean, really, who sleeps dead in the center of the bed like that? Pick a side and stay with it, dude!
* Doesn't it seem like the reason the company can offer to let you sleep on the bed for 30 days for free is because the darn thing is so heavy that nobody would want to bother moving it back out of the house after it's been there a month?
* Doesn't it creep the one family out that the guy who comes knocking on their door was just earlier peeking through their window? And is a peeping Tom really the best representative for a device that goes in your bedroom?
* And is it really a good message to send by saying that this bed means married couples no longer have to compromise? Having your own perfect sleep number is one thing, and I'm all for that. But isn't compromise in marriage good?
I still want to try one of those beds. It definitely beats my tiny sofa. But I hope if I get one, it doesn’t come with the peeping Tom.

Hi there! My name is Leanne, and I actually work in the customer service department at Select Comfort, the creator of the Sleep Number bed. Thank you for writing about our infomercial. I hope to clear up a couple of your concerns for you. First and foremost, our bed is very lightweight. It also is very easily assembled and disassembled to make moving it a piece of cake. We offer a 30-night trial, because we understand that people need more time than 15 minutes in a store to find out if a bed is truly right for them.
You are right, compromise in a marriage is important. However, 9 out of 10 couples do not agree on the level of firmness on a mattress. This causes a compromise where either one person, or both people, are unhappy. Why not choose a bed that allows each of you the night's sleep you deserve? Wouldn't that be a compromise in itself?
We do have a lot of great deals on Sleep Number beds. Queen mattresses start at just $699. I encourage you to visit www.sleepnumber.com to see our deals, and find the nearest store to you. And no need to worry, the "Peeping Tom" only appears in infomercials. ;-)
Sleep Well!
