Stressless Furniture

Ekornes Stressless Furniture: Infomercial Review

I was lying on the couch with a Big Mac and fries when my fiancé screamed at me, "Watch this commercial for Stressless Furniture."

"Stressless Furniture." Now there's an oxymoron. For most guys, stressless furniture is any furniture that we don't have to carry in or move around for our significant other. But I watched the commercial; I really had no choice.

There was this ridiculously refined British woman extolling the virtues of this furniture that I have to admit was kind of sweet looking. It was cool the way you could mix and match pieces, and how you could recline on all chairs and sofas.

Er, I'm sorry, according to the British lady's accent, they are "sofers." Not sofas. And they're great for watching "moooooooovies," not "movies."

She insisted that "even a really bad movie is not so bad when you're this comfortable." Okay, how about really bad infomercials? I mean, this commercial started off bad when they spent the first three minutes showing me a chair spinning...and spinning...and spinning. I almost lost my Big Mac.

But it concluded by saying that if I call, they'll send me a Stressless catalog. But again, when you're engaged to be married and your fiancé wants to look at a furniture catalog, it's anything but "stressless."

But at least when the furniture arrives--and after I've moved it all in--I'll have a great place to relax.

I wonder if she'll let me eat a Big Mac on the new "sofer."
